Scenic Wine Tours in Tuscany Trip Advisor

All my tours offer great wines and crowd-free tastings, but I’ve designed my Ultra-Premium Wines of Tuscany Tour to be the highest expression of the Chianti region. Eighteen years of giving wine tours have enabled me to single out the best estates, both in terms of wine and hospitality. It’s a day of family owned boutique wineries, where the pursuit of quality is paramount in everything they do. Worth mentioning is that they are also held in significant regard by the local sommelier’s associations.

Your Private Tuscany Wine Tour

The tour will be carried out by myself or my partners Myriam Buzzi & Maurizio Bellini. Travel will be totally private in our recent model spacious minivans and pick up is directly from your accommodation. The day includes a leisurely drive through the Tuscan countryside with stops for photos and contemplation of the iconic Tuscan scenery. Commentary on the history of the Chianti region, and wine tastings will be in perfect English.

You’ll enjoy relaxed seated wine tastings with personalized attention from the staff and owners. Furthermore, while tasting rooms may have other guests, we guarantee there won’t be any crowds.

Cortedomina winery in TuscanyWe’ll be visiting two wineries both of which are producers of ultra-premium wines ($30 – $80 price range). These will include Dry Rosés, Chianti, Chianti Reserves and Super Tuscans, all of which of great finesse and complexity. You will also be introduced to genuine Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

The second wine tasting will include a three course “light lunch” at Cortedomina winery. Cortedomina is a tiny boutique estate surrounded by stunning countryside where everything just screams Tuscany. It’s a magical combination of sheer determination and passion for winemaking, in a truly unique setting. Furtermore, you will receive the warmest of welcomes and enjoy genuine Tuscan cuisine for an unforgettable experience.

Is this a tour only for “experts”?

My Ultra-Premium Wines of Tuscany Tour may seem a day for experts, but that’s not so. I don’t run nerdy wine tours, and if you love a glass of wine, even on a casual basis…you’ve qualified. It will be my and my partner’s pleasure to guide the novice or the afficionado and answer any questions you may have…and there are no dumb questions, we’ve all had to start somwhere.

However if you’d prefer something more affordable but you’d still like to taste excellent Tuscan wines, I suggest you look up my Wine Lover’s Special.

Your ultra-premium wines of Tuscany tour: what to expect

We’ll be visiting two family wineries where you’ll enjoy seated tastings with personalized attention. Both estates can boast the services of Italy’s most respected and sought after wine makers, not to mention a long tradition in know how. But the big difference between these and other estates is in their pursuit of perfection through meticulous attention to the smallest details. This is something which will become very evident during your visit.

What is an Ultra Premium Wine?

In honesty this is an aspect that could be open to debate, so I’ll define what you can expect on this tour.

  • The price of a bottle will be between $35,00 to $90,00 with most being in a central range of about $55,00.
  • The grapes are grown directly by the wineries (not sourced from other growers) and from their top-tier vineyards.
  • The production is limited, and for the most part only available by direct purchase from the estates.
  • You certainly won’t find these wines in supermarkets.
  • Each estate can boast a high level of grape quality and winemaking skill and meticulous selection processes.
  • Most wines go through post-fermentation, maceration, and barrel ageing.
  • All of the above is significantly time-consuming and not suitable for high-volume production.
  • The result is excellent cellar worthy vintages with great structure, elegant balance, and refined aromas.
Three course light lunch

Lunch will be at the tiny restaurant of Cortedomina winery where your taste buds will be delighted with genuine Tuscan cuisine based on EVO and seasonal ingredients. You will enjoy a starter dish of consisting of  cured meats (prosciutto, finocchiona, salami), pecorino cheese, and various types of crostini topped with pâtés or seasonal vegetables. This will be followed by a pasta or rice dish with a meat or vegetable sauce, and then a typical Tuscan sweet to close. Vegetarian and Gluten free options are also available.

Of course, you will also be tasting five of the estates wines during you meal, including dry rosé, Chianti’s and super Tuscans.

Scenic Tour of Chianti

Chianti is one of the world’s most beautiful rural areas, so an important part of the day will be dedicated to a leisurely drive of the iconic landscapes. I’ll explain the countryside from an agricultural and historic point of view, and we’ll also make a number of stops for photos and contemplation.

What is a Super Tuscan wine?

Super Tuscans are a creative approach to wine making. You might like to consider them designer wines. Apart from defining the geographic area where the grapes are grown, and where the wine is made, there are few rules. There is however an underlying concept which all reputable estates adhere to, and that’s the quest for the highest quality possible. The flavor profile tends to lean towards international tastes, and the grapes tend to be Cabernet, Merlot & Syrah.
