This is a Tuscan wine tour where I'll introduce you to wines that I've chosen personally. All have all received critical acclaim with 90 plus scores, but more importantly, they represent the wines my clients have enjoyed most over the years. It costs a little more than my basic wine tour, but if you're a wine lover, I assure you it's worth it. The morning starts with a scenic tour of the stunning Chianti landscapes. We'll travel at a relaxed pace making numerous stops for photos (all photos on this site are from my tours). Along the way I'll also talk of the history and folk culture of the region.

The afternoon will have us visiting two wineries which I've personally selected for the quality of their wines. The first will give us the opportunity to try highly acclaimed Chianti Classico, Chianti Reserve and Super Tuscans. The wines are made to the most modern concepts with a blend of Sangiovese Cabernet and/or Merlot and are aged in French oak barriques. We'll also have a guided tour of the fascinating cellars. Our second winery is a small family business with spectacular wines. A boutique winery too small to be well known, but highly aclaimed with awards in Italy and the US. Here we'll have the pleasure of tasting Chianti Classico and Chianti Reserves from various vintages, plus a fantastic Super Tuscan. The wines are made from 90% Sangiovese grapes and 10% Cabernet; a choice based on the most recent concepts. The reward is a delightfully fruity wine where where ripe plum and cherry flavors prevail. The ageing is done in Hungarian oak barriques adding a touch of spices.

09.30am: We leave our and head for the gorgeous Chainti landscapes. Our morning will consist of a leisurely Tuscan tour, as we meander along the most beautiful routes in Chianti. We'll make a number of stops for photos, and you can to take your own postcards. I'll also explain vine growing techniques, and the philosophy of aesthetics of the Chianti countryside.

Lunch is at your leisure. If required, I can suggest great eating alternatives in the village of Panzano, or the castle hamlet of Volpaia. (Lunch not included in price).

Our Tuscan wine tour of my favourite wineries starts in the afternoon. We'll tour two very different wineries, one a little larger, and one delighfully small to see and taste the best of both worlds. However high quality is the common denominator, and both make Chianti according to the most modern concepts. We'll taste different versions of Chianti made from blends of Sangiovese, Merlot or Cabernet, and Super Tuscans made from 100% sangiovese. Of course we'll also visit the cellars where the ageing techniques will be explained.

After our wine tastings we'll visit the town of Greve in Chianti. Like all Chianti towns, Greve in Chianti is disarmingly small. Here it's nice to relax with a drink and maybe do some people watching. You might also like to stroll around the arcaded sidewalks and browse the shops which specialize in inexpensive souvenirs. For those who like cold cuts, the Falorni butcher's shop is a must see.

Our wine tour in Tuscany ends here, and we set off on our return journey at about 5:00pm

6.00pm
