There's an ever increasing interest in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, but one also hears so much about fake products? How can you tell if you're getting the health and taste benefits EVO is supposed to bring, and how can you judge one from the other? Well it's not that difficult if you know what to look for, and after today you will.
During our one and a half hour visit to our Tuscany Olive Oil Estate, we'll learn how oil is extracted, and we'll follow with a tasting and tutorial on how to recognize genuine extra virgin olive oil. I assure you, your taste buds are in for a surprise.
Of course my tours are also about wine, so we "also" visit one of the wineries from my signature Wine Lover's Tour , for a tasting of highly rated Chianti, Chianti Reserve and Supertuscan wines. Last but not least, we'll have a scenic safari through the stunning Tuscan landscapes, with numerous stops for your holiday photos. 09:15am. We set off directly from your accommodation and head into Tuscany for our day of olive oil and wine tasting. The first part of the morning is dedicated to enjoying the iconic Tuscan countryside. As in all my tours, I'll make numerous stops for photos and contemplation of the gorgeous scenery. This a private tour , consequently the pace is leisurely with ample time to enjoy each stop.
Around mid morning it's time for our wine tasting in Tuscany as we visit one of my favorite wineries, and I may add, it's a favorite with my guests too. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere we'll enjoy a sit down tasting of traditional Chianti, and modern Super Tuscan wines. The quality of Chianti has evolved immensely in recent years and many regularly obtain 90+ scores in the press.
Lunch included at one of my favorite restaurants known locally for Tuscan home cooking, will comprise of a Platter of Tuscan cold cuts and toasted breads (bruschetta) with seasonal toppings, a pasta dish which you can freely choose from the menu, a glass of house wine, and if you can mange it, a sweet to close.
After lunch we take a second panoramic drive of about a half hour through the Tuscan Countryside and we arrive at the olive oil estate mid afternoon. Our visit will last about an hour and a half.
We'll learn how oil is extracted, and the meaning of the terms "first and cold press." These terms are used untruthfully by some manufacturers and to make matters worse, there are other adulterations of which you will be informed. But it's not all bad news as we'll discover. Today's producer is one of the most reputed in Tuscany who is also allowed to apply an I.G.P or D.O.P label. These are oils which are submitted to the authorities, for laboratory testing and subsequently tasted by a panel of experts. The selection is tough and only the best oils get through. This is the oil you will be presented with today, and at the same time we'll have a simple but informative tutorial on how to recognize a quality oil; it's not difficult when you know what to look for and the information will be of great value for your future purchases.
Our day in Tuscany ends and I'll drop you off at your accommodation at about 05:00pm.
